"10 Tips for Staying Up When the World is Down" 

I was hanging out at Starbucks/Chapters with my teenage daughter and she brought me a book by Marci Shimoff “Happy for no Reason”. So while waiting for Laura to pick out a book to purchase I skimmed it. I loved it, she’s bang on with her philosophy however I need to take it one step further because this is all in people’s heads but they don’t know how to change the blueprint of their cells so they can feel Happy in their bodies.

WE all know happiness is not something you find, Happiness is something you are.

So here’s my synopsis of the ideas in the book with regards to energy healing. This is how I refer to it to my clients:

1. Incline Your Mind Toward Joy. Have you noticed that your mind tends to register the negative events in your life more than the positive? Reverse this by consciously savoring the positive experiences you have, as they happen: the sun on your skin, the taste of a favorite food, a smile or kind word from a co-worker or friend. Let the good feelings sink in! Be in the moment. Then lock it in with tapping on your head and heart as in Body Talk, EFT or Reiki... Let your body recognize the feeling of joy, bliss and delight.

2. Lighten Your Load. To make a habit of letting go of worries and negative thoughts, start by letting go on the physical level. Cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien recommends giving or throwing away 27 items a day for nine days. This deceptively simple practice will help you break attachments that no longer serve you. Easier said than done. Have a Body Talk session or a Reiki meditation to help you let go of these things that no longer serve you. One session and I went home and purged for 36 hours things from prior to my divorce that were too emotional to even look at. How liberating. EFT may help here too, but you will probably need a practitioner to help you move forward. Emotional attachments are deep.

3. Get Your "Happiness Rest." As a child my mother said go get your “Beauty sleep”. One sure-fire way to boost your happiness level is to go to bed by 10 p.m. for three consecutive nights. You'll find that the world is a different place when you're rested and fresh. Can’t fall asleep that early? Stay away form the computer and TV for 3 hours before wanting to sleep. (That’s a whole other article). Tap your switching or cortices if you’ve learned Body Talk Access, do a Reiki treatment on yourself or do some EFT. These are tools you can learn to use yourself. We are not helpless here.

4. Become an Inverse Paranoid. Choose to believe that this is a friendly universe—one that's out to support you, rather than out to get you. When you find yourself facing a challenging situation, ask yourself, "If this were happening for a higher purpose, what would it be?” “What is being mirrored her?” I’m not going to harp on it but my three favorite energy healing techniques make this so easy!

5. Hang with the Happy. Study after study indicates that happiness is contagious! Spend as much time as possible with people who are supportive and upbeat to amplify those qualities in your own life.

6. Don't Believe Everything You Think. Interrupt the downward spiral of worry and anxiety by questioning your negative thoughts. Just because you think something doesn't make it true. Test that, do the switching procedure or cortices to catch that thought and rewire your automatic response. Tap it out with EFT.

7. Seek Out Silence. Prayer, meditation, and being in nature have long been recognized as ways to access a deep place of peace and strength inside. Reiki is the easiest form of calm attainment. Pts you immediately into alpha and theta brain wave patterns. Takes you right out of Beta waves that cause our stress hormones to run. A full Body Talk session will do that to.

8. Move Your Body. All the experts agree that some form of exercise is essential for maintaining optimal well-being. The next time you start to feel glum, get your blood moving faster-even if it's just by standing up and moving around while you talk on the phone, or parking farther away from your destination. Tap out your Body Talk reciprocals, do Donna Eden’s Radiant Circuits, belly dance, laugh (its jogging from the inside).

9. Ground Yourself in Gratitude. Research shows that thinking of the things you're grateful for in life definitely raises your happiness level. Writing them down is even more powerful. So start a gratitude journal today. One of the Reiki precepts is “just for today feel gratitude for all living things, all moments”

10. Wish Others Well. Try "beaming love" to people—your friends and family, as well as strangers you pass on the street. It fills your own heart in the process. Growing up in downtown Toronto this used to be a game my friends and I played, smile at everyone, compliment them, we thought it was funny so many were fearful, but it made us feel it, spreading the joy. Reiki energy is a joy to beam to whoever needs it.

So to join the ranks of the resilient by becoming "Happy for No Reason." Read Marci’s book, take a Body Talk Access class, learn Reiki, practice EFT or simply experience BodyTalk sessions now and then to stay tuned up and tuned in and enjoy your life. Though you may not be able to control the markets, you'll be able to make regular deposits into your own "happiness account."

This makes deposits into your happiness account.
