Samba Squad celebrates ten years of love for the drum with percussive explosion at Phoenix Concert Theatre

SAMBA SQUAD, Toronto’s most loved percussion posse, celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhilarating percussive explosion at the Phoenix Concert Theatre on Friday, May 22. Co-presented by Lula World Festival, this will be the closing concert of the 7th annual music festival.

Special guests will include Sani-Abi, beat boxer  AKA Subliminal, Alberto Alberto, tap dancer Shawn Byfield, Eliana Cuevas, Sarita Leyva, The Dance Migration, Aline Morales, Laura Mae Lindo, Ben Grossman, Jeremy Ledbetter, Wagner Petrelli and Mutambo Rainos amongst others.
 
Half of the evening’s proceeds will go towards the Samba Kidz Outreach Program, which offers after-school and summer programs to inner-city children ages 7 to 13.

Founded by renowned award-winning percussionist Rick Shadrach Lazar, SAMBA SQUAD has for the past ten years thrilled audiences across the country and abroad with their unique blend of world rhythms. The band’s original compositions and eclectic arrangements are infused with the sound-power and street-feel of the drums of the Afro-Brazilian Samba tradition. With compelling vocal harmonies and eye-popping dance performances, Samba Squad is a veritable joy-instilling groove-machine that busts out in energy and excitement.
